As of Wednesday morning, there were 43 active wildfires burning in B.C.
Of those, three were considered fires of note, and four were out of control, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.
And, fire officials are bracing for a heat wave this weekend, that could lead to more wildfires as forests dry out. Armel Castellan, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said wildfires are a risk this weekend, particularly in the Fort St. John and the Peace regions, where temperatures in the 30s C “will not be helpful for wildfire season.”
Meantime, starting on Saturday, open fires will be prohibited across B.C.’s Bulkley and Nadina regions. For more on open fire bans visit the
