Experiencing the 2024 total solar eclipse in New Brunswick | SaltWire #solareclipse #eastcoastB.C. snowpack is at a five-decade low, easing fears about flooding but raising concerns about an increased risk of drought in the spring and summer.
Snowpack levels varied between stations, but overall 28 stations — about 18 per cent of all sites — reported record lows. On the B.C. south coast, the snowpack is at 53 per cent below normal, and on Vancouver Island, 49 per cent. While low, these figures are significantly higher than in 2015 when the basins were at 13 per cent and 15 per cent for April.
It is too early to tell whether the low levels would mean drought, he said, citing other factors such as drought impacts from previous years and weather.
