The province issued an emergency alert late Friday, warning people anywhere on the Chilcotin River to evacuate immediately.

WATCH: Officials continue to closely monitor the landslide that is blocking the Chilcotin River , as concerns mount over an unstable dam that could burst at any time, releasing thousands of litres of water. The landslide of debris has doubed in size since Wednesday. Margo Wagner is the Chair of the Cariboo Regional District and she joins us with an update.As of Saturday morning, emergency alerts are still in place because of the remote but massive landslide that’s blocking the Chilcotin River .

“We cannot emphasize enough how important it is for people living in the area and downstream of the slide to remain vigilant and stay away from the river for their own safety,” said Nathan Cullen, the province’s water and land resources minister.Emergency Alert has been issued by the Province of BC. Evacuate IMMEDIATELY if you are anywhere on the Chilcotin River or along its banks from the Hanceville Bridge to the Fraser River. The Chilcotin RiverB.C.

Wagner says the banks around the Chilcotin River are sandy and limestone and have been affected by wildfires.
