Victoria resident John McCann has purchased two bikes — one for the young girl to keep and one for Cerebral Palsy Kids and Family
Airdrie RCMP alerted the public last week that they were investigating a theft from a home in the community that took place in early July, when a number of items were stolen, including a bicycle that had been customized for a girl with cerebral palsy. The family living in the home told Postmedia they had left several items outside their garage while they were preparing to move to Calgary when the bike was stolen.
“I found kind of a disgusting thing,” said McCann. “They were just in the midst of a move and all this other stress. It’s the last thing they needed to have to deal with and I thought it was probably a real important part of her life.”Article content Sheralee Stelter, executive director of Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families, said they were “thrilled to death” when they received McCann’s call. She said the bikes are often customized to each rider and there is almost always a wait list for families to rent them.
She said she didn’t understand why someone would take the bike, noting it would be very uncomfortable for someone to ride if it wasn’t designed for them.
