There have been five more deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in British Columbia, bringing the death toll in the province to 140, health officials announced Friday.

There have also been 15 additional cases of the coronavirus confirmed in the last day, bringing the total number of positive tests in B.C. since the pandemic began to 2,407.

Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry provided Friday's update in the form of a written news release, rather than a press conference. Dix and Henry also announced two new outbreaks of the coronavirus in the province: one at an acute care unit at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, and one "community outbreak" at Oppenheimer Group, a fruit and vegetable processing plant in Coquitlam.
