A Vancouver Island family is pleading with the B.C. government to reverse its decision to stop funding a life-sustaining drug for their daughter, Charleigh, who suffers from a rare, fatal genetic disorder. Charleigh is the only child in the province diagnosed with the condition, and her parents say the drug is the only known treatment to slow her decline. Without the treatment, they fear Charleigh will die.

A Vancouver Island family says their daughter will die if the province doesn’t reverse its recent decision to stop funding a critical drug. It’s an extremely rare, fatal, genetic disorder and there is no cure. Charleigh is the only child in the province diagnosed with it.

“This is keeping her here with us. And the fact that she only has two more funded treatments, it’s just not good,” said Pollock. “Without this drug, the impact would be catastrophic on Charleigh. She will go back to having daily seizures where we don’t know if she is going to keep breathing,” Fales said.
