A B.C. grandma says she shouted so loud when she found out she won $500,000 that her daughter, who was in another room, was worried she was having a medical emergency.
“I shouted loudly and went downstairs to tell my daughter. She came out and thought she may have to take me to the hospital,” said White Rock’s Magdalena Gonzales, recalling when she found out she had netted the half-million-dollar prize.Gonzales told her daughter and grandson first about her lotto luck, adding, “My daughter was so excited, yelling and jumping, wanting to make sure I had the ticket and didn’t lose it.
She says it feels “amazing” to win and, in the BCLC release, mentions that she’s taking some time to decide what’s next but plans to celebrate with family.The BCLC says Gonzales, who purchased her lucky ticket at Red Rooster Food Store in White Rock, now joins other B.C. lottery players who have together redeemed more than $51 million and $129 million in winnings from Extra and Lotto Max, respectively, in 2024.
