The first hubs will open in 2023 the Okanagan then launch across the province in 2025.

“In today’s system if you’re a parent of a child and you start noticing they’re not meeting their milestones, you’re worried about them, you think maybe their speech isn’t doing so well, it’s really difficult to know where to turn to,” said Mitzi Dean, minister of children and family development.

Under the new program, neurodiverse minors and their families will be able to go to a one-stop “family connections hub” in their community where they can access a range of professionals and services regardless of whether they have a referral or diagnosis, said Dean.Article content Parents who are receiving individualized autism funding and school-age extended therapy benefits will have the option to continue with their existing supports or switch to the new hub system until 2025, when individualized funding is phased out.

“We ended up having to go to the coast to receive services, which was incredibly disruptive to our family as we have three older children,” he said, adding the services were so fragmented he and his wife ended up having to act as “full-time” case managers for their child.Article content
