“When I got up north, it was just like I was following a groomer along because I just had so many fresh trails ahead of me which were just superb,” Savage said. He said there are typically people in the shelters, and he wondered how he would open the conversation. At the first one he visited, he grabbed a couple of toques and walked in. Everyone turned to look at him. The further he travelled, the more his message began to precede him. Toward the end, at nearly every shelter he visited, people would recognize him and say, “Oh, you’re the heart and stroke guy doing the ride for your buddy.”
During his epic snowmobile journey, Ray Savage came across this replica of a “Fred Flintstone” car along a snowmobile trail just outside Nackawic, N.B. CONTRIBUTEDSavage said that whenever he got stuck somewhere because of the conditions, it ended up turning out well. For example, he got to spend an evening with a group of friends in Gaspereau Forks, including an old friend from school who he hadn’t seen in more than 40 years.
After having trailering from the Moncton area to Lincoln due to deteriorating weather and trail conditions, Savage had a chance to visit with Forbes’s family members and friends. He said it was rather serendipitous, as he got to spend more time with them than he first expected. Trinacty said she hopes the message of Savage’s campaign will resonate, and that people will start taking better care of themselves.
