JEREMY FRASER/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY, N.S. — The Nova Scotia Under-18 Major Hockey League recently announced its award winners for the 2022-23 season and South Shore Mustangs forward Jared Pitman was named the most valuable player.
The league's best defenceman award was presented to Eric Halliday, a third-round pick of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Luke Foster of Steele Subaru was given the John Hanna Trophy as the most sportsmanlike. He had seven goals and 29 points in 28 games while only posting two penalty minutes during that span. Nathan Mills and Russ Decoste of the Halifax McDonalds combined to have the best goals-against average in the league. Norm Thompson was the recipient of the Gerry Hollie Award as the league's volunteer of the year.The first all-star team features Cape Breton West Islanders defenceman and Eagles prospect Ryan Hayes along with Lochead, Ben Wallace , Joseph Hawco , Ryan Fletcher and Bailey Shortall .
