A 21-year-old from Old Bridge was killed after the crash.
A driver accused of traveling the wrong way on a New Jersey highway and fleeing the scene of a fatal crash has been located and charged, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said.
Police responded to a crash on Route 18 in Piscataway on Thursday at 12:58 a.m., prosecutors said. A vehicle was reportedly traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes of the highway and collided with an oncoming vehicle head-on, officials said. Officers located a victim, Max Spivak, 21, of Old Bridge, who was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.
Police then found the alleged driver of the wrong-way vehicle, Nageswar Polamuri, 42, of Iselin, officials said. He has been charged with second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, prosecutors said. An investigation into the crash is ongoing. Officials are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area to contact Piscataway Police patrolman William Kloos at 732-562-7647 or MCPO Sgt. Jonathan Berman at 732-745-4328.
