An independent government review in Australia has proposed fines of up to A$10 million for major supermarkets if suppliers and growers are not treated fairly. The review also suggests making a voluntary grocery code of conduct mandatory.
SYDNEY - Australia 's major supermarkets could face fines of up to A$10 million if suppliers and growers are not treated fairly, an independent government review said on Monday, as it proposed to make a voluntary grocery code of conduct mandatory.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called it "a very strong interim report", adding his government wanted fair prices for both farmers and families. Woolworths and Coles, which together ring up about two-thirds of Australian grocery sales in one of the world's most concentrated markets, have reported stellar profits after two years of high inflation. Six separate inquiries into their operations have been announced this year.
Stakeholders can make submissions to the interim report by April 30, and the final report will be submitted to the government by June 30.The doctor who wrote a note about Trump's 'excellent' health is a 'fixture' at the former president's golf club: report An ex-GOP congressman blasts the 'populist wave' that he says has corroded conservatism: 'Now we're impeaching people like it's some kind of carnival'Billionaire Don Hankey offered to pay Donald Trump's full $464 million bond, but Trump's lawyers didn't notify the court about the offer, ProPublica reported.
