Auston Matthews didn’t practise on Tuesday and there was no guarantee the club’s No. 1 centre will be in the lineup on Wednesday
The Leafs placed TJ Brodie on injured reserve, as the defenceman is dealing with a rib injury. In the 13 games Brodie has missed this season, including a 12-game stint on the sideline because of an oblique injury, the Leafs are 10-0-3.
If Matthews can’t play against Nashville, McMann would draw in. During practice, he skated on a line with centre David Kampf and Alex Kerfoot. Pierre Engvall, usually the winger on that line, moved up to first line, where William Nylander was moved to the middle between Michael Bunting and Engvall.
