The Austin Police Department is investigating the city’s 31st homicide of the year. Police say the shooting that left a 14-year-old girl dead happened Tuesday overnight at an apartment complex on East Howard Lane in northeast Austin.

“I see a car, like a tannish brown greyish looking car, driving down the side of the street shooting an automatic weapon going back and forthcoming all the way from one end to the front of the building shooting. The way they were driving, they weren’t aiming at anyone they were just shooting,” said Davis.After the gunfire ended Davis looked over the balcony to see if anyone was hurt.
Davis says it took the police more than 45 minutes to arrive on East Howard Lane. APD senior patrol officer Demitri Hobbs says the call for shots fired came in around 1:35 a.m. APD later confirmed the young girl died at the hospital. Neighbors tell CBS Austin that after this shooting and other incidents, they’re looking for somewhere else to live because they don’t feel safe. So far there’s been no word on any arrests. We reached out to APD for more information but were told outside of what’s been provided, there are no further details at this time.
