The Aurora City Council is expected to approve a $531.5 million 2023 budget Tuesday, about an 8.6% increase from 2022.
The council is scheduled to see a presentation on the final budget proposal at its Committee of the Whole meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday, with a special City Council meeting to follow. There, aldermen are expected to vote on the spending plan.Included in the proposed budget for fiscal year 2023 is a 2% increase in the city’s property tax levy. But due to increases in assessed value, it should result in a 4.
The general fund, which is the city’s basic operating fund, is budgeted at $223.2 million and is balanced because that is the estimate of the revenues for the fund, also. Officials said it would be an increase of almost $19 million in revenue for FY23. The key priorities in the budget, officials said, are public safety, economic development and innovation and collaboration. The budget also includes funding for significant roadway and infrastructure improvement.
