'We knew in the back of our minds that we wouldn’t be able to reopen.'
Gopnik-Lewinski confirmed the closure with SFGATE and shared that the restaurant has been out of commission since its temporary closure last year. He added that his lease ended in January 2022.
“We went in our hiatus in May [2021] and we were hoping that the supply chain would go out by the fall, and it hasn’t,” Gopnik-Lewinski told SFGATE. “It was things not changing as quickly that made us make it official.”began to strain the day-to-day operations. Gopnik-Lewinski told SFGATE that in the months leading up to the hiatus last May, he needed to trim an ounce of meat off sandwiches and was also forced to raise menu prices to stay afloat.
“We had been hopeful, but I think we knew in the back of our minds that we wouldn’t be able to reopen the brick-and-mortar,” Gopnik-Lewinski said. “It just got to a point that it didn’t make sense for us anymore.”
