The Auditor-General of Canada has issued a report criticizing the federal government's management of the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) program through sole-source contracts with Accenture Inc., highlighting issues of oversight and value for money.
A recent report from the Auditor-General of Canada has criticized Ottawa 's partnership with Accenture Inc. , highlighting that the government gave the consulting firm too much control over the scope and value of sole-source contracts worth $313 million for administering the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) program. The CEBA program provided loans of up to $60,000 to nearly 900,000 small businesses during the pandemic.
The report suggests that Export Development Canada (EDC), the Crown corporation responsible for managing the program, did not adequately oversee Accenture's work and failed to ensure fair value for the money spent. This included paying Accenture over $23 million over four years to operate a call centre, at a cost of $40 per call on average
