CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Indigenous artists across the Atlantic region were in Charlottetown from May 29 to June 2 celebrating Indigenous art and craft at this year’s Petapan’s event.

Jeff Ward, director of community, culture, and heritage for Wagmatcook, said they are pleased to bring the event to P.E.I. for its fifth anniversary. A fashion show event took place at the Confederation Centre of Art on June 1 as part of the Petapan event. Indigenous stylists from Atlantic Canada showcased their clothing on models who walked the runway.

“It felt great. It feels great to have a granddaughter, another generation on there,” she said. “It was wonderful. When I walked in, everybody cheered, and everybody made me feel good, it was so beautiful.” Paul said she enjoyed the experience and is looking forward to walking the runway again when the show returns. The show will rotate across the Atlantic provinces and will return to P.E.I. in the next six to eight years,” said Ward.
