Michaele McAvoy, interim executive director of Mission House, said she was happy to hear about the cold-weather shelter program receiving city funding. But she was even more excited about Glasser's meeting last week with her and representatives of Sulzbacher and Changing Homelessness, the area agency for homeless prevention.
The group talked about"the intersection between social services and law enforcement" and how Atlantic Beach can help bridge the gap, as well as the co-responder concept, among other things, she said.The new ordinance stemmed from citizen complaints about a homeless person at the Beaches Town Center, as well as the ramifications of an 11th District Court of Appeals ruling.
The ordinance "is consistent with current case law and represents a best-practices approach to protect all citizens in our city while recognizing the need to respect the constitutional right of people to travel freely," according to the report.
