A few weeks later, however, Thomas’s condition began to improve. The day after her ventilator was removed, hospital staff surprised her with a special delivery: Briggs. After more than a month in the ICU, Thomas was transferred to Medical City McKinney’s inpatient Rehabilitation Institute to work on regaining her strength so she could return home and care for Briggs.
