At halfway mark, trust in leaders emerges as key Alberta election question yyc abpoli ableg abvote

Those dissenting voices from the right make for an unusual election wrinkle, said Mount Royal University political science professor Lori Williams.

And that sustained support for Notley may now be translating to gains in voter intention, with a Saturday Abacus Data survey, including being up by six points in battleground Calgary, where it’s widely believed the election will be won. “I’ve heard a lot of people say I can’t bring myself to vote NDP, but nor can I bring myself to vote for Danielle Smith and the UCP,” said Williams. Both parties have spent the lion’s share of the campaign in Calgary. It’s considered the key battleground, with Edmonton presumed to be going orange and Smith slated to roll through the rural ridings.

“They’re not just coalescing around Calgary, where obviously everybody’s agreed that’s going to determine the outcome, but they’re also really coalescing around spending,” said Harrison. “And in some ways the UCP spending is almost kind of what you would expect from the NDP.”The election also had a major wrench thrown into it with wildfires which sent the province into a state of emergency andin ridings like Drayton Valley-Devon, Central Peace-Notley, Lesser Slave Lake, Lac Ste.

“That isn’t a criticism of her because it’s so hard to do that, particularly when you’re pulled in another direction.”
