'There was a lot of weight to shed, but each time the scale read a lower number, I was proud.'
About 21 months ago, I was the heaviest I had ever been: 465 pounds. Weight has always been a struggle for me. Despite being active as a kid in school sports through college, I was on the heavier side. That blew up once I started my career postgrad and got comfortable with an unhealthy routine.
That’s not to say I didn’t care. Believe me, I tried to lose weight before. All of the diets and those programs advertised on TV? Yep, I tried them all, and for one reason or another, I wasn’t able to continue with them.Then, about four years ago, I met my wife Casey, and she gave me a purpose. I wanted to get my life together for her. We both needed and wanted to.. To some, the procedure is cheating. That’s really not the case. I saw it as doing something to take control.
Like running, for example. Even with the weight I had lost right after the procedure, I had to lose 30 more pounds before it was even possible to run without pain or discomfort. Not to say being 380 pounds while running was easy, but with that weight off, I felt confident working out and that my body could actually accomplish what it was setting out to do.
