The Ontario government says it will send a $200 rebate cheque to roughly 15 million taxpayers in the province, as well as $200 for each child in eligible families.Following his fall economic statement on Wednesday, Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy joined CBC Windsor's Chris Ensing. He addressed the government's new $200 rebate cheques for all Ontarians, and advocates' calls for the province to increase social assistance payments.
Trevor Manson, the co-chair of ODSP Action Coalition — a grassroots volunteer advocacy group led by people with disabilities on ODSP, is calling for the government to double ODSP rates. Although he says an increase is needed, Manson believes even a 50 per cent increase wouldn't fully help those on ODSP.
