As a child, Amy Ching-Yan Lam wrote a letter to her future self, Me in the Future, in which she imagined the domestic comforts of ‘a small but comfy house and maybe a dog.’ Her exhibit by that name is running until June 11 at the Richmond Art Gallery.When Amy Ching-Yan Lam was a child, she wrote a letter to her future self. In it, she described the comforts of domestic stability that come from “a small but comfy house and maybe a dog.

In her new exhibit, Lam asks what happens to these dreams as one becomes an adult. Work includes sculptures made in collaboration with HaeAhn Woo Kwon, and objects from the RAG and the Richmond Public Library. One of the main inspirations for the exhibition is the true story of Looty, a Pekingese dog taken from China’s Summer Palace by British troops at the end of the Second Opium War. Lam’s other inspiration is Richmond itself.

Alex Sandvoss’s Green New Deal is among the works included in an exhibit at Place des Arts. The show focuses on prominent people the artist would like to be held accountable, as well as portraits of those she feels should be celebrated.A variety of prominent public figures are featured in Alex Sandvoss’s latest show.
