Leonard Paul said one of his favourite things to paint are birds. He often takes pictures of birds in the wild or those who come by his feeder in his backyard and then paints them. Angela CapobiancoAfter a few days of processing the news, Paul said he started thinking about what this honourary doctorate meant. For him, it’s a recording of the past and has led to much reflection.

“I was going through a lot of stuff to also my cultural background, and I was getting to be of an age where it could be a factor in life - being a First Nation raised in the white society. When asked what it meant to receive an honourary degree from his alma mater, he said it was touching.
