Arrowsmith Search and Rescue received its first call of 2025 after a car left Highway 4 near Cameron Lake. The team assisted Oceanside RCMP in ensuring no one else was trapped. This follows a record-breaking 2024 for the team, which responded to 85 calls.
The team was called out Saturday morning to assist Oceanside RCMP after a car went off Highway 4 into Lockwood Creek near Cameron Lake.
“About ten years ago we were responding to 25 to 30 incidents a year and now we’re up to 85 and some of the things we noticed last year were they were pretty big. We had quite a few large scale events, some lasting as long as 11 days,” added Rivers. “Ranging from a simple hike turning into an injury, to somebody who’s missing for a multitude of different reasons,” said Rivers. “We do a lot of work with dementia in Parksville-Qualicum here so we have a lot of seniors that go missing and tend to wander off. We had quite a few calls this year for missing kids as well.”
