Jessie Holmes of Nenana was the first musher in Iditarod 52 to reach the coast on Sunday, but ended up chasing Dallas Seavey, who breezed through the checkpoints of Unalakleet and Shaktoolik.

“All that rest I was able to get and still be able to be in somewhat of a position to be up in the front,” he said, “Got to be foolish to not do something with that. That’s my dream.” “I didn’t mess around,” he explained. “I did a short rest there, because I had been given so much rest, that Dallas was back in front of me by 40 — 45 minutes out of Kaltag, when I was ahead of him by almost two hours. I was like, ‘I gotta do something.’
