Follow along for the latest updates on the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Thompson was shot to death outside a Manhattan hotel last week while he was in New York City for an investor event. Police have described Thompson’s killing as a “premeditated, preplanned, targeted attack.”

Ghost guns are “a criminal’s dream come true” given that they are designed to be untraceable, according to Giffords, the gun violence prevention group named after shooting survivor and former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords . Prosecutors in New York filed murder charges against Mangione late Monday, along with other charges linked to the killing, according to court documents obtained by The Associated Press.“Unfortunately, we cannot comment on news reports regarding Luigi Mangione,” the remarks, shared by the Maryland House of Delegates member and the suspect’s cousin, Nino Mangione, read. “We only know what we have read in the media.

Authorities have identified the arrested man as Luigi Mangione, 26. Mangione was arrested by law enforcement in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday. While Mangione’s arrest was “peaceful,” police said at a Monday evening press conference that he is no longer cooperating with their questioning. “We do not kill people in cold blood to resolve policy differences or express a viewpoint,” the governor said. “I understand people have real frustration with our health care system, and I have worked to address that throughout my career, but I have no tolerance … for one man using an illegal ghost gun to murder someone because he thinks his opinion matters most in a civil society.”

A criminal complaint details five charges, which also include carrying a gun without a license and falsely identifying himself to authorities, The New York Times added. A two-page document police say Mangione had on him at the time of his arrest was sharply critical of the healthcare industry and said the “parasites had it coming,” a police official who saw the papers

In a press conference Monday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said ghost guns"are extremely dangerous, and we must do more… to clamp down."
