An Apple Watch strapped to Benjaminy’s wrist does more or less the same, and he keeps a sharp eye on it as the two march on. When the spirit moves him, Benjaminy said, he’ll sometimes walk a 20-km stretch — about the distance of a half marathon. “He told me that he had a backache,” Benjaminy added, recalling the conversation that sparked the fellowship. “So I told him that I had the same issue in the past, and then I started walking and it helped me a lot.”
The few times Goldreich is absent coincide with holidays in Israel, but he still walks while away, he said, and Benjaminy turns to a mutual friend — “the substitute” — to stand in.
