Three regional health authorities, Eastern Health, Western Health, and Labrador-Grenfell Health have issued an update on the ongoing review into mammograms read on viewing stations that did not meet the technical standard.after being viewed on 3-megapixel monitors instead of a standard 5-megapixel monitor.

Of the 10,883 identified mammograms, 2,362 images have been reviewed with no change. Six patients will require further follow-up. The health authorities say the number of patients requiring follow-up remains low, and they believe the overall risk to patients is low. The health authorities expect the review of affected mammograms to be completed by the end of October. Patients who require follow-up are being contacted directly by phone and their primary health care provider is also being contacted. Affected patients will also be contacted with a follow-up letter outlining the next steps.on its review which identified nine mammograms with potential discrepancies in their interpretation.
