The last-ditch efforts kept Arizona State within range of earning its first Pac-12 win, but the last shot didn’t fall through and ASU fell 55-53.

The final seconds against Washington were a devastating ending for Arizona State women’s basketball.

“I thought the gut of the game was where there were some possessions that did not go our way and some miscues defensively,” ASU head coach Natasha Adair said. “It just came down to a possession. You grow from it and you learn from it.” The defense began to fall for ASU in the third quarter when Washington started getting more backdoor layups and shot 56.3% from the field. ASU surrendered 28 points in the paint in the second half.

ASU has lost its last two games by four points or less and has dropped the last seven games played in the Pac-12.ASU’s offense finally took advantage of Washington’s early mistakes and mounted a 12-2 run that lasted nearly three minutes to seize the lead. Backed by two consecutive 3-pointers from Crisp and Jaddan Simmons, the Sun Devils were seeing the shots fall through. At the end of the quarter, ASU had made four of its six attempts.
