John Jones relishing his shot as Cardinals' starting left tackle, though it may only last five more weeks
Cardinals' Josh Jones went home to Houston as a starting left tackle in the NFL and"It felt good," he said.Like most of his teammates, Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Josh Jones used the off week to get a little time away. The Houston native spent a few days back home visiting with family and friends and said it was well needed.
Arizona had traded for right tackle Marcus Gilbert the previous year, but Gilbert missed the entire season with a knee injury. In training camp, he decided to opt out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and later would announce his retirement. “As you all know, I played that position all through college and I’ve been trying to go through this little transitional phase, trying to figure it out, so being back at left tackle, I just feel comfortable,” Jones said. “I feel like I’m playing like it. Everything is slowing down for me now being back over there. I feel I can be more aggressive over there.Humphries is signed through 2025. Beachum, however, is in the final year of his contract.
“There were some ups and downs. That was my only time getting some real playing time because I didn’t play much my rookie year at all. Just some bumps and bruises from being a young player out there.” The Cardinals have also been without center Rodney Hudson , right guard Will Hernandez and left guard Justin Pugh, who was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Kingsbury said there’s a chance Hudson and/or Hernandez could return in another week, but for the time being it’s up to the backups, including Jones.
