Hollywood superagent Ari Emanuel was booed by attendees Wednesday at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills for the Simon Wiesenthal Center when he called for the resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Emanuel, who received a humanitarian award, is a familiar figure in political circles as well. One of his brothers, Rahm, is the former mayor of Chicago, and was the chief of staff of the White House during the first two years of President Barack Obama’s administration — a time when Democrats were also focused on undermining Netanyahu. His other brother, Ezekiel, is widely considered one of the architects of the controversial Obamacare policy.
In his speech, Emanuel backed Israel’s fight against Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists, but claimed that Netanyahu had damaged Israel’s image and had to resign for the sake of that country’s success. When I was growing up, any time there was a Jew in the news who had done something bad, my father would say, “He’s ruining the Jewish people’s reputation in the world!”
