. Week three: statement rugs.embracing maximalism“We’re looking beyond walls,” explains interior designer Joanne Dolan. “We’re looking at ceilings and making them more interesting. We’re looking at floors and saying, ‘What else can I do there?’” The answer to that is, invariably, a statement rug.

For example, you could go with a vintage Moroccan rug, Dolan suggests, or a colourful, geometric-patterned rug in, say, a squiggly oval-ish shape. “Rugs do not have to be square or rectangular,” she says. “Along with the curves that are prominent in more trendy furniture pieces, rugs are more oblong and organic in shape too.
