A massive cold front originating from the Arctic has swept across Canada, prompting extreme cold warnings and causing significant snowfall in some areas. Meteorologists warn of dangerously low temperatures and urge residents to take precautions.

A mass of frigid air originating from the Arctic has descended upon parts of Canada, spanning from New Brunswick to eastern Alberta, causing a significant drop in temperatures. Peter Kimbell, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, explained that winds blowing from west to east occasionally allow Arctic air to infiltrate southern regions for a few days before retreating northward. This meteorological phenomenon has triggered extreme cold warnings across the country.

Temperatures in Alberta are feeling like -40 C, while in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, they are plunging to -45 C. Northern Ontario is bracing for the coldest conditions, with temperatures plummeting to -50 C. Meteorologist Jill Maepea reported that a weather system originating over the eastern seaboard of the United States has brought approximately 25 centimeters of snowfall by morning to southern New Brunswick. Prince Edward Island has also experienced significant snowfall, accumulating about 15 cm in certain areas. The extreme weather conditions have led to the closure of several schools across the Prairies and the Atlantic coast of Canada. Law enforcement agencies in regions affected by the harsh weather are urging residents to refrain from non-essential travel, dress warmly when outdoors, ensure their fuel tanks are full, and carry a winter driving survival kit containing essential items like a shovel, blanket, and booster cables
