Here's a look at the high-school sports standouts who make up the San Diego Union-Tribune's Athletes of the Week for April
Taking on some of the best runners in the state, the Helix senior lowered his own section record when he clocked a 46.63 to win the 400 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays. He set the previous best of 46.82 in 2022.Competing in the Arcadia Invitational, the junior by way of Switzerland set the section 3,200-meter record, becoming the first to break 10-minutes, clocking a 9:59.08. The previous best was 10:11.38.
Arnaldo earned medalist honors in the North County Coastal playoffs, shooting a 6-under 65 at St. Mark’s with three birdies and an eagle. He also shot a 2-under 68 a Vineyard, collecting another three birdies and an eagle.A junior, Ma’ake is third in the state in homers with 16. She’s fifth in RBI with 59 and slugging percentage at 1.662. Ma’ake has a .692 batting average with a .722 on-base percentage. She has a 1.33 ERA.
