His ankle has almost healed after a gap in the sidewalk sidelined him in October.
Stepping in a pothole is a runner’s right of passage. While some may swear and jog away unscathed, Jason Kosnoski of Ann Arbor, Michigan wasn’t so lucky. After stepping on a patch of uneven road in his neighborhood last fall, Kosnoski injured his ankle. Now, he’s receiving a $15,000 settlement from the city.
Although Ann Arbor has committed to ongoing sidewalk projects, the city still has 142 miles of sidewalk gaps,. So on the morning of October 15, Kosnoski ran down Brooks Street in the Water Hill neighborhood. And since the block didn’t have a sidewalk, he was forced to cut onto the road, where he says he stepped into a pothole covered in leaves.Parties disagreed on the true meaning of “pothole.
