Our aid has been significant and it will continue, including 200 more armoured personnel carriers that were manufactured here
In some ways, Ukraine is a country much like ours. Our nations both endure frigid winters and are populated by roughly 40 million people. However, Ukrainians do not enjoy the same peace and security to which we are accustomed as Canadians. Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine has shattered lives, displaced millions, and threatens the overall security of our planet. This war does not just affect Ukraine.
Doing nothing is not an option for Canada. Our aid has been significant, and it will continue. Since the beginning of 2022, our country has committed over $5 billion in combined military, economic, humanitarian and other aid — including well over $1 billion in military aid, such as the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System that Ukraine urgently requested.
I just announced an additional donation of 200 armoured personnel carriers manufactured by Roshel in Mississauga, Ont., which employs approximately 80 Ukrainians who have come to Canada and are now building the vehicles that Ukrainian troops will use to defend their homeland. These vehicles allow for the safe transport of personnel and equipment, and medical evacuations. They allow soldiers to detect threats early, and their armour will help shield troops.
