Some speculate online that it was a disgruntled employee who had been recently fired
The 123-year-old coal-fired steamship The Seqwun sails out of the Wharf in Gravenhurst to lakes Muskoka, Rosseau and Joseph.
Geordie Newlands, owner of SWS Muskoka, which also operates marinas in the area, called the incident shocking. He said more than one building had been damaged and estimated that it was possible the cost for repair was “in the millions.” “Luckily nobody got hurt, which is a good thing,” he said. “It was almost surreal what happened. For something like that to happen… it’s like fiction.”
While he didn’t want to speculate on the details, he said the pandemic has caused some strain within the boating industry and added more pressure in general to the local economy and labour force. It is unknown whether any boats were damaged in the “excavation.” The Ontario Provincial Police were not immediately available for comment. The owners of Pride Marina were also not immediately available for comment.
