Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a right hip impingement.
The team announced Wednesday that Rendon will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a right hip impingement.
The 31-year-old has been on the injured list since July 5 with what the team initially called a hamstring injury. He also missed games earlier this season with knee and triceps injuries. The Angels signed Rendon to a seven-year, $245-million contract in free agency after he helped the Washington Nationals win the World Series in 2019. In 58 games this season, he hit .240/.329/.382 -- some of the worst averages of his careers -- with six home runs and 34 RBI.
The Angels have also been without three-time MVP Mike Trout for most of the season due to a calf strain. On Tuesday, manager Joe Maddon said the club Trout to return to the lineup this season despite the team being outside of the playoff race in the American League.
