Andrew Wiggins and the New York Knicks both surprisingly emerged from the NBA trade deadline in good shape. loung_s has all the winners and losers from a busy day:
Get the best of our Raptors coverage and exclusives delivered directly to your inbox! The first five seasons of former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins could be summed up as empty calories.
Despite the career year he was enjoying, it would seem as if the Minnesota Timberwolves were hell-bent on dealing him for franchise star Karl-Anthony Towns’ buddy D’Angelo Russell . In joining the Warriors now, Wiggins will be surrounded by veteran star-level players with championship experience who could just be what he’s needed all this time. Instead of being one of the focal points of the offence, Wiggins should now be able to take a lesser team role that could, ultimately, lead to greater individual results.
Wiggins, on the other hand, has basically been given a fresh start, one that shouldn’t come with the crushing weight of impossibly great expectations as had been the case with the Timberwolves. With the burden lifted, now it’s fair to hope he becomes the player he was always billed to be.
