We chat with Warrior stars Andrew Koji and Jason Tobin (jsntbn) about the intense fight scenes, continued tension between their characters, and romance in season 3 of the StreamOnMax series:

Warrior takes place during the Tong Wars of the 1870s in San Francisco. The series follows Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who traveled to America in the hopes of finding his sister. However, he is pulled into the Tong conflict when he is sold to one of the most powerful Tongs in Chinatown. The third season follows the aftermath of the race riots that rocked Chinatown, with tensions between the Irish and Chinese communities continuing to rise.

Andrew Koji: Yeah, that was a real tough one. My body actually collapsed, because we were mixing up different fight scenes then. I think I literally did the nun chuck fight scene, and went straight on. And I think I had maybe one day off. And actually, the first day of filming I couldn't lift my legs. Literally, my hip flexors were so inflamed that I couldn't kick. So we had to... That first day of filming, I was like, I don't know if I can do this.

Jason Tobin: This is a great question, because in Season 2, in the Mexico episode, every now and then, when we filmed, we threw in some improvisation. And there's one time when I have to give up my knives to enter this place in Mexico. And Ah Sahm says to Young Jun, "Hey, maybe you should learn to fight without your knives sometimes." And then I say, "What do you think holds the knives?" You know what I mean? I hold my hands all the time.

Andrew Koji: Yeah. This is definitely the consequence. Season 3 is now the consequence of the fallout from that bombshell, as well. So the relationship is... Does Young Jun fully trust Ah Sahm, at this point, in Season 3? Or are there still some trust issues that are lingering there, because of that reveal in Season 2?

Andrew Koji: And it's complex, as well, because he's Ah Sahm's, Young Jun's best fighter, so it's not a great time to be losing his best fighter-Jason Tobin: And not just only is he his best fighter, but he's really his best friend. But also he's like the brains. You know what I mean? Young Jun goes in weighing a lot of things, and you can sense the frustration, and the weight of all these things on his shoulders.
