C.J. Stroud may have slight edge right now as Panthers' choice at No. 1 but a lot can change in next six weeks. The Bears trading their No. 1 pick to a quarterback-needy team should come as no surprise to anyone.

The Carolina Panthers, whose owner, David Tepper, has long yearned for a franchise quarterback since they cut Cam Newton in 2020, offered that, trading away the No. 9 pick, No. 61 pick, a 2024 first-round pick, a 2025 second round pick, and wide receiver D.J Moore, according to a league source. The Texans will get whichever quarterback the Panthers don’t choose with the first overall pick, unless they trade back again.

A league source said last month that there were some in the Panthers organization that really liked Levis. But the former Kentucky quarterback would have been a likelier choice at No. 9 for the Panthers, had he fallen that far. Even though his size is a concern, Young seems to fit with what the Texans are looking for, more than others. Aside from the fact that he’s widely considered the top quarterback in this draft and a safe pick, Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said he’s seeking players with a certain profile.
