Ship project cost continues to soar with funding for modernization of Halifax facilities.
If a yard didn’t have the ability to build the CSC, it wouldn’t get the contract.
Instead, the government’s decision to provide $463 million extra for CSC is a signal the Liberals are fully committed to the program no matter what it costs. Conservative MP Kelly McCauley, a member of the House of Commons government operations committee that requested Giroux examine the CSC, said he and some other MPs believed just the construction of the CSC alone would eventually cost more than $100 billion.
As the price tag continues to rise and delays increase, National Defence is steadfast that it will not alter course. Previously, defence officials claimed they didn’t expect the CSC cost to increase. But, according to the government news release, the new influx of money to Irving “will enhance the efficiency of ship construction while improving project costs and delivering best value for Canadians.”
