Analysis: If the Mueller probe was truly a 'witch hunt,' why not pardon the alleged 'witches'?

By Aaron Blake Aaron Blake Senior political reporter, writing for The Fix Email Bio Follow March 29 at 10:53 AM Ever since Attorney General William P. Barr reported that Robert S. Mueller III had decided not to accuse President Trump of crimes, Trump has been telling anyone who would listen about the vast, failed conspiracy to take him down. He has decried the entire investigation as an attempted “illegal takeover” of U.S. government.

Among the broader public, the opposition is pretty overwhelming. Two-thirds of registered voters oppose pardons, while just 20 percent support them. Independents are 3-to-1 against, 63-20. “You know what [Flynn] has gone through, and what so many others have gone through,” Trump told Hannity. “I could name names that would just go on for the entire — your entire show. It’s a very, very sad thing. I don’t want to talk about pardons now, but I can say it’s so sad on so many levels.”
