The Anaheim Ducks selected one of the top North American wingers available at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft by snapping up Beckett Sennecke of the OHL Oshawa Generals with the No. 3 overall pick.
Sennecke’s combination of size and skill make it easy to see why his stock rose steadily throughout the 2023-24 season. An elite stick handler whose edgework has grown by leaps and bounds since a recent growth spurt, the right-handed shot has potential to be an exciting talent for Anaheim Few draft-eligible players are harder to stop once they’ve picked up steam, and though he lacks the snarl of a Cayden Lindstrom or Tij Iginla, it’s difficult to imagine either player embarrassing a defense the way Sennecke can.22 points in his final 12 regular season games.
Sennecke was especially lethal during the postseason, when he piled up 10 goals and 23 points in 16 games to finish third in playoff scoring for the Generals, though he was absent due to injury as the star-studded London Knights swept Oshawa in the OHL Final.If Sennecke can parlay those tools into more points in the OHL next season, Anaheim will feel confident they have drafted a key part of their top-six going forward.
