Kate Linebaugh: And just one more retrospective question, if you will indulge me. Like one thing, variations of this question I have asked you repeatedly, which is when will life return to normal? Kate Linebaugh: And looking back, do you think that there are some things you would have done differently knowing what you know today with regard to the political divisiveness?
Kate Linebaugh: In looking at the data today, what do you see about the possibility of future variants? Kate Linebaugh: You said this weekend that you have an open mind about the origins of the COVID virus.Anthony Fauci: Well, because you want to have lessons learned of things that may have happened, be they a natural occurrence, which the data seemed to be strongly pointing in that direction, or as I said, keep an open mind, that it could have been a virus that the Chinese got from the environment and had in the lab and it kind of leaked. Anthony Fauci: Well, I mean there will likely sometime, maybe not in our lifetime or your lifetime, you're much younger than I am, that in fact there will be another pandemic. And that gets to the issue of using the lessons from what we've learned to better prepare us for the inevitability of another outbreak. When the next one will be is very difficult to predict.
Anthony Fauci: Well, there are a number of reasons. One, while I'm still energetic and passionate about public health and public service, I'd like to use what I have accumulated over a period of decades to perhaps help others and inspire others to get involved in science, medicine, public health, and perhaps public service.
