Hundreds of U.S. citizens were removed from the Diamond Princess cruise ship on Sunday.
During the evacuation process, after the passengers had left the ship and had started heading to the airport, U.S. officials were notified that 14 individuals had tested positive for"These individuals were moved in the most expeditious and safe manner to a specialized containment area on the evacuation aircraft to isolate them in accordance with standard protocols," the statement read.
"During the flights, these individuals will continue to be isolated from the other passengers," the State Department said.
