The Fort Worth-based airline is suing travel website Skiplagged for selling its tickets without permission from American Airlines.
“If a customer knowingly or unknowingly purchases a ticket and doesn’t fly all of the segments in their itinerary, it can lead to operational issues with checked bags and prevent other customers from booking a seat when they may have an urgent need to travel,” an AA representative toldin an email. “Intentionally creating an empty seat that could have been used by another customer or team member is an all-around bad outcome.
Because Skiplagged does not employ American Airlines travel agents, the travel website “has no authority to form and issue a contract on American’s behalf,” the suit said.American also accuses Skiplagged of trademark and copyright infringement for using its logos on the website.“Skiplagged’s ongoing actions are continuing to cause substantial and irreparable damage to American for which there is no adequate remedy at law,” the lawsuit said.
Skiplagged, the brainchild of then-20-year-old Aktarer Zaman, was created in 2013 and has faced multiple lawsuits from different airlines since its inception.
