Rodent activity increases during the cold weather as rats seek shelter in warm areas with food and water.
When pest control company Orkin released its"Top 50 Rattiest Cities" list in October 2020, Chicago was named the most rat-infested city in the U.S for the sixth time in a row.

The D.C. Department of Health Rodent Control Division also issued a statement last year, noting an increase in the number of rats.
